Princes Court Dementia Care:

Offering 35 single rooms, Princes Court offers residents the highest level of care in a homely, relaxed and secure environment.

To provide the level of care that our residents deserve requires a dedicated and trained staff who have an affinity with those with dementia. The training and upskilling of all staff is a high priority at Princes Court with all care staff holding or working towards their National Certificate in Community Support (Residential) Level 3. All non-care staff have been educated and trained in how to care for residents with dementia. In addition to their National Certificate, care staff are offered the Canterbury DHB course "Walking in Another Shoes" which is a specialised dementia training course.

All residents are encouraged to participate in a wide variety of activities. With two trained Diversional Therapists, all residents are offered activities that meet their personal preferences from the favourites of housie, indoor bowls, baking, music, games and quizzes to outings in Princes Court’s van to the domain, the beach, the hills, local concerts, ice creams through the local fast food drive through. Outings are arranged that appeal to small groups of residents. Our male residents enjoy outings to the Plains Museum, the local airport and farms.

Princes Court is fortunate to have many volunteers that give their time to our residents, including taking them for a walk, one-on-one time as well as visits from the local kindergartens, the Methven Choral group and ecumenical church services.

The gardens at Princes Court are beautifully maintained and have been designed to allow access all year round. Residents grow their own vegetables in the raised garden beds which are then prepared by the kitchen staff and enjoyed by the residents. All meals are prepared on site with individual dietary needs met.
